Back at it

{Happy Canada Day!} Love the reality of this photo: Emmy's fallen headband,
and Nixon looking away - at a dog or something... haha!

Okay, okay! Since it took me over a month and a half to start posting again, I'm trying to be on the ball and catch up a bit. But to be fair - summertime is always a bit crazy and to add a newborn to that aswell you must understand that life has been INSANE! We tend to stick close to home because I have barely enough energy to get through the day, let alone drag two kids anywhere by myself very often!
This kid loves to climb. I guess toys are more fun when you are sitting on them???

Nixon had managed to get into the bathroom unsupervised, so when I found
him completely soaked in toilet water I had to laugh at the plethora of
things floating in the toilet. As I snapped the picture I caught him
in action of putting in just one more item... our toothpaste!

My sweet baby girl does this pretty much all day long.

I was a little bit of a homebody for the first week or so after I got home from the hospital, but then the weather started to get really nice out and I was feeling bad that I wasn't outside enjoying it (or getting a bit of color on my pasty body!). Nick's Mom, Teressa, had a day off so she came over to help out with the kids. It was nice to be able to have some time to actually get myself ready for the day and not feel like such a slob. We decided to pick up some lunch and go to the park to eat it and I think Nixon thoroughly enjoyed his first Happy Meal. Teressa was so great to take Nixon on the playground equiptment and help him climb up things and go down the slide. He didn't really know what to think of it at first, but then he started to giggle and had lots of fun playing after that.

He is getting so tall I can barely stand it!

Playing peek a boo with Mommy & the camera

Nixon's first experience at a splash park was PRICELESS! You'd think that a 13 month old would be timid in the spraying water and around a ton of bigger kids, but oh no... he was the complete opposite! He ran full steam ahead into cold streams of water, into huge puddles and around and inbetweeen everywhere else. Even though he was shivering by the end, he had a blast and I can't wait to take him again.

Can you see the excitement on his face?

When some of Nick's extended family was in town, we decided to do some sightseeing and hit up Fort Edmonton. It's basically a huge piece of land in the river valley where city streets have been re-created to show what businesses & homes were like in Edmonton in the 1800's and early 1900's. There must be a hundred buildings, tons of people who work there and are dressed for that era, horse drawn carriages, a street car, and a train that goes from one end to the other. We walked throughout the streets for 3+ hours, just checking everything out (and eating along the way) and ending up at the actual Fort. We took a few more pictures, then rode the train back. Nixon did so great and didn't even cry once, which is amazing considering he missed his whole nap. Emerson rode along in my new baby carrier (which kind of looks like a purse) and was happy the whole day too.

Nick & I (with Emmy hiding away...)

I thought this was a barn or something, till Nick scoped it out and told
me it was really cool jail that I needed to see for myself.

Can you imagine crossing the plains with a wagon like this?

Our ride home. A welcome relief after walking all afternoon!
